This is a regular student clerical position which serves as STLR Communications Assistant, in which the student will use digital and face-to-face communications to help promote STLR and encourage participation in transformative experiences at UCO. The STLR program runs under the Center for Excellence in Transformative Teaching & Learning (CETTL). All duties are performed under direction and supervision of STLR or CETTL Staff.

Student Transformative Learning Record (STLR) learning activities help students grow life and soft skills through UCO’s Transformative Learning tenet areas. Employers and grad schools say they want students to be prepared in these areas as much as academic knowledge. STLR tracks 5 of the UCO Central 6 core areas through the STLR Snapshot record: Global and Cultural Competencies; Health and Wellness; Leadership; Research, Creative, and Scholarly Activities; and Service Learning and Civic Engagement.
Department Specific Job Functions
Assist staff in promoting and carrying out the STLR (
stlr.uco.edu) program. Will use the existing UCO and STLR branding guide and provided approved use of UCO and STLR logos/icons. Job may involve helping with:
STLR social media platforms.
Creating and/or updating content for web, advertising, marketing, promotional materials, and/or print documents.
Graphics and/or videos for social media/web.
Updating event calendars (e.g., in UCORE) and spreadsheets.
Creating messaging to the student body and UCO campus about STLR. May be asked to explain STLR to other students from a student perspective.
Booking, setting up, and hosting informational tables about STLR.
General clerical duties as needed.
Other related duties as assigned.
Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.
Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Required
Computer skills including document layout and digital content creation. Experience with Microsoft Office products, graphic editing software (e.g., Canva or Adobe Suite), and short video editing apps and/or video editing software. Experience with social media posting and messaging. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
Experience in program or event promotion. Updating and/or managing web content such as webpages/websites. Original graphic design work.
