Stockyard Supervisor

Job Overview:


The Stockyard Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of vehicle yards, ensuring efficient parking, inspection, and safe vehicle movements within the stockyard. The role ensures systematic layout planning, accurate vehicle inventory, and timely coordination with transport, PDI, and operations teams. It also enforces safety compliance and provides leadership to drivers and yard staff to ensure a controlled and optimized environment.


Job Responsibilities:


Yard Management & Vehicle Movement:

  • Supervise yard operations including vehicle parking, relocation, outbound preparation, and dispatch.
  • Maintain organized yard layout and parking maps for efficient space utilization and vehicle tracking.
  • Coordinate vehicle entry/exit activities with inbound and outbound teams.
  • Oversee movement planning to support operational flow and avoid congestion.
  • Assign and guide drivers, operators, and yard marshals on daily movement plans.


Vehicle Inventory Control:

  • Conduct regular physical yard counts and reconcile with system records (VIN, status, location).
  • Ensure proper tagging, VIN scanning, and system status updates.
  • Identify and escalate inventory discrepancies, damages, or missing vehicles.
  • Monitor vehicle readiness and support outbound shipment planning.


Team Supervision:

  • Lead and manage yard teams including drivers, handlers, and marshals.
  • Allocate daily tasks and ensure compliance with SOPs and movement standards.
  • Provide training on vehicle handling, yard safety, and GPS/YMS tools.
  • Evaluate team performance and enforce discipline.


Safety, Cleanliness & Compliance:

  • Enforce site-specific HSE standards during all vehicle movements.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and promote safe handling practices to prevent damage or injury.
  • Maintain yard cleanliness and organized zones for safe navigation.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where needed.


Coordination & Reporting:

  • Liaise with transport, PDI, and fleet readiness teams for vehicle release scheduling.
  • Coordinate with the stockyard planning team to meet vehicle allocation and transporter deadlines.
  • Submit daily and weekly reports on yard activity, inventory count, damage logs, and utilization rates.


Job Requirements:


  • Diploma or bachelor’s in automotive, Logistics, or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in Stockyard/Yard Operations.
  • Vehicle Handling Knowledge
  • Tech Proficiency (YMS, VIN Scanners, MS Excel)
