A Store and Purchase Storekeeper is responsible for a hybrid role that involves both the physical management of inventory within a facility and the administrative duties related to procuring new stock. This position ensures optimal stock levels are maintained to support operations while controlling costs and managing supplier relationships.
Responsibilities
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, organize storage areas, and conduct regular physical inventory counts and audits to ensure accuracy and prevent discrepancies.
- Receiving & Dispatching: Receive, inspect, and verify incoming goods against purchase orders and delivery notes, documenting any damages or discrepancies. Prepare and pack orders for shipment or internal distribution.
- Purchasing & Procurement Support: Initiate purchase requisitions when stock levels approach minimum reorder points. This may involve gathering quotes, evaluating suppliers based on quality and price, and occasionally placing low-value purchase orders.
- Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of all stock movements, including receipts, withdrawals, and returns, using inventory management software or ERP systems.
- Organization & Safety: Ensure the store area is clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations. Use proper methods for storing materials to prevent damage or loss.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required, with additional certifications in inventory management or supply chain a plus.
- Experience: Proven experience in a storekeeping, warehouse, or a related procurement/inventory control role is highly advantageous.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, WMS).
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Familiarity with barcode scanners and other inventory tools.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklift certification may be a plus).
- Soft Skills:
- Attention to detail is crucial for accurate record-keeping and inventory counts.
- Organizational and time-management skills to manage various tasks efficiently.
- Problem-solving abilities to resolve discrepancies and issues with suppliers or stock.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with internal departments and external vendors.
- Physical stamina to perform manual tasks such as lifting and moving items safely.
