The Role

The Storeroom Assistant is responsible for supporting the management of inventory and the organization of the storeroom. This role involves receiving, storing, and issuing supplies to various departments while maintaining accurate records to ensure efficient stock management.


Main Tasks

  • Receiving Goods: Assist in receiving and inspecting incoming shipments for accuracy and quality, ensuring all items match purchase orders.
  • Inventory Management: Help maintain accurate inventory records, tracking the quantity and condition of stock items.
  • Organization: Organize the storeroom to optimize space and ensure easy access to items, labeling shelves and storage areas as needed.
  • Issuing Supplies: Prepare and issue supplies to various departments as requested, ensuring timely delivery and proper documentation.
  • Stock Rotation: Implement first-in, first-out (FIFO) procedures to minimize waste and ensure the freshness of perishable items.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Keep the storeroom clean and orderly, following health and safety regulations in the storage and handling of goods.
  • Reporting: Assist in conducting regular inventory counts and preparing reports on stock levels and usage trends.


Building Successful Relationships

  • Warehouse Team: Collaborate with warehouse team members to facilitate efficient operations and inventory management.
  • Department Heads: Communicate with department managers to understand their supply needs and assist with timely stock requests.
  • Suppliers: Build positive relationships with suppliers to address any issues related to deliveries or product quality.
  • Management: Provide updates to management on inventory status, supply requests, and any challenges encountered.


Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in receiving and issuing supplies.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain an orderly storeroom.
  • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and departments.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues and assist in developing solutions related to inventory management.
  • Knowledge of Inventory Practices: Basic understanding of inventory management principles and procedures.


Physical Requirements

  • Physical Tasks: Ability to lift and carry heavy items, stand for long periods, and operate equipment such as hand trucks or pallet jacks.
  • Composure Under Pressure: Must maintain professionalism while managing busy periods of receiving and issuing supplies.


Qualification Standards

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; further education in supply chain management or logistics is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a storeroom or inventory-related role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Certifications: Certification in inventory management or warehousing is a plus.
  • Grooming: Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
