Position Summary:
The Storm General Foreman (GF) plays a critical leadership role in overseeing daily field operations during storm response and emergency restoration projects. This position is responsible for coordinating multiple crews, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and delivering timely and quality restoration of utility services. The GF must be capable of managing high-pressure field environments, interacting with utility representatives, and maintaining accurate documentation throughout each deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise multiple line crews in the field during storm response assignments
- Ensure compliance with utility safety requirements, OSHA, and company safety policies
- Participate in daily tailboards, hazard assessments, and switching procedures
- Coordinate with Storm Superintendents and utility clients for crew assignments and job priorities
- Monitor work progress and resolve field-related issues in real-time
- Document crew timesheets, equipment usage, and work performed (work orders)
- Train and mentor crew members; ensure apprentices are paired appropriately with Journeymen
- Maintain professional communication with utility customers and internal teams
- Support crew logistics, including rest periods, fueling, and material pickups
- Report any incidents or delays immediately to storm leadership
Qualifications:
- Journeyman Lineman
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in overhead utility distribution (preferred)
- Experience with storm response and emergency restoration projects (preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret construction prints and switching orders
- Proficient in operating safely under energized conditions (including hot stick work)
- Familiarity with NESC, OSHA 1910.269, and utility-specific safety protocols
- Maintain storm yard readiness for mobilization, including inventory of tooling and PPE
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfortable using mobile apps or tablets for documentation
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work long hours in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
- Must be available for extended travel and deployment with short notice
