Job Summary:
The Strategic Relationship Management Principal Director – RIA Segment will focus on deepening and expanding relationships with key Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) client firms. This role requires firsthand experience working within RIAs or deep knowledge of how independent advisory firms operate, scale, and make executive‑level decisions. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, you will help RIAs grow their businesses by aligning their strategic priorities, operating models, and investment programs with the full power of Envestnet’s ecosystem.
RIA Segment Focus:
This role is dedicated to Envestnet’s RIA client segment and requires a deep understanding of the independent RIA business model, including firm economics, growth strategies, governance structures, investment workflows, technology decisioning, and the operational realities faced by RIA executive teams.
Job Responsibilities:

Strategically engage with RIA executive and Home Office leadership to drive holistic account management with end‑to‑end revenue ownership, informed by a strong understanding of RIA operating models, economics, and executive priorities.

Partner closely with Envestnet RIA Distribution team to execute a collaborative go-to-market (GTM) strategy that systematically drives key sales plays.

Partner closely with Envestnet Account Management team, where applicable, in the overall management of RIA client firm relationships across the Envestnet ecosystem.

Act as the primary RIA relationship leader, partnering with Envestnet internal teams, RIA leadership, and premier partners to align incentives, pricing, and sales enablement strategies that drive managed account adoption and flows.

Serve as the central connection point between RIA leadership, and Envestnet specialists and RIA Distribution team, leveraging advisor data to coordinate execution, unlock cross‑sell opportunities, and convert advisor engagement into managed account flows.

Cultivate and nurture trusted advisory relationships with RIA senior executives, including founders, CEOs, CIOs, COOs, and Heads of Wealth Management, grounded in credibility earned through direct RIA experience or deep RIA industry expertise.

Translate RIA executive priorities, such as growth, operating margin management, advisor productivity, investment outcomes, and scalability, into actionable platform, product, and partnership strategies.

Apply deep knowledge of RIA governance, investment committees, and buying processes to influence consensus‑based decision making and long‑term strategic adoption.

Facilitate 8–12 client meetings each quarter (leadership sessions, due diligence reviews, QBRs) with clear, actionable outcomes and measurable results.

Partner with subject matter experts to deliver insights on market outlooks, industry trends, business strategies, and product solutions.

Leverage Salesforce to manage relationship data, opportunity pipelines, and go-to-market strategies.

Work with internal legal and executive teams to manage contract renewals, pricing, and compliance.

Oversee client participation in conferences, including negotiations, outreach, and post-event follow-ups.

Travel required: 50–75%.

Adherence to and application of Envestnet legal, compliance, risk, business continuity and administrative policy within the role and department(s) including the timely completion of training & awareness, affirmations and testing as requested.

As part of the responsibilities for this role, you will understand and readily support Envestnet's established corporate business practices, policies, internal controls and procedures designed to create value or minimize risk.
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree required.
-
15+ years of experience in financial services, with at least 15 years in relationship management and strategic sales.

Proven expertise engaging with independent RIAs and Home Office clients, including direct experience advising or working within RIAs and engaging with C‑suite executives on firm‑level strategy, investment programs, and operating decisions.

Direct experience working within an RIA, or extensive experience advising RIAs in a strategic, consultative capacity, with demonstrated understanding of RIA business models, economics, fiduciary obligations, and executive decision‑making frameworks.

Demonstrated success in managing complex client relationships, anticipating issues, and delivering consultative solutions.

Strong background in financial business analysis or consulting, with a track record of driving growth and adoption.

Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at senior levels.

Strong organizational, multitasking, and project management abilities.

Familiarity with Envestnet’s wealth technology platforms is a plus.
Desired Qualifications:
-
Former RIA executive, partner, COO, CIO, or senior leader, or comparable experience operating or scaling an independent advisory firm.

Deep working knowledge of RIA investment management workflows, advisor compensation structures, portfolio construction, managed accounts, technology stack decisioning, and growth strategies.

Credibility with RIA executive teams derived from lived experience operating within the RIA ecosystem.

Salary:
The annual base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000.
This position is eligible for a variable pay based on a sales incentive plan.
