Structural Steel Designer

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Structural Steel Designer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed steel structure designs, connection details, and fabrication drawings while coordinating closely with engineers, architects, and fabrication teams. This role requires strong technical capability, accuracy, and a solid understanding of steel behaviour and constructability.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop structural steel designs for buildings, warehouses, canopies, platforms, and industrial structures.

· Prepare shop drawings, GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and erection plans.

· Design bolted and welded connections, including base plates, stiffeners, gussets, and moment/shear connections.

· Create 2D and 3D models using AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, and other relevant software.

· Coordinate with structural engineers to ensure compliance with design intent and project specifications.

· Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to identify clashes and propose solutions.

· Ensure all drawings comply with AISC, BS, Eurocodes,SBC and local authority requirements (Dubai Municipality, Trakhees, DDA, etc.).

· Provide technical support during fabrication and site erection.

· Prepare material take‑offs (MTOs) and assist in BOQ preparation.

Qualifications & Skills

· Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

· Minimum 3 years of experience in structural steel design and detailing.

· Strong knowledge of steel behaviour, load paths, and fabrication processes.

· Proficiency in AutoCAD and Tekla Structures (mandatory for most roles).

· Experience with STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, TEKLA, RAM CONNECTION, SAFE, AUTOCAD IDEA STATICA is an advantage.

· Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

· Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.

· Good communication and coordination abilities.
