The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) Creative Team is seeking to hire one talented and motivated Graphic Design Student Assistant to support our mission of delivering impactful visual content. This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to develop your skills, work on meaningful projects, and collaborate with a team of professionals who are dedicated to excellence. Must submit portfolio or samples of graphic design work.

Employment

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, in-office student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.

Prerequisites

Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.

Graphic Design


Work Schedule

Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Work will be in-office at the NLAB building downtown Sacramento at 9th and O streets.


Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).


Compensation

$18.27 -$24.62 per hour


Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Experience with design software, along with word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Previous design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrates a variety of design projects.
  • Knowledge of typography, layout design, image resolution, and color theory.
  • Eye for creativity while working within department branding guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to integrate photos effectively to enhance visual storytelling in design projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software programs.
  • Experience with Accessibility awareness and training a plus.
  • Knowledge of Service Now, Microsoft SharePoint and Asana Management tool.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating compelling graphics for print and digital media, including flyers, posters, social media posts, infographics, and more.
  • Support the creation and editing content for digital platforms, ensuring alignment with branding and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliancy.
  • Collaborate with the team to brainstorm and develop creative concepts for campaigns and informational materials.
  • Clearly understand briefs, requirements, and feedback, while prioritizing and meeting project deadlines.
  • Conduct research and data entry for the use in campaigns and project related collateral.
  • Monitors the external branding email for requests.
  • Support staff in ensuring documents are formatted and compliant with accessibility standards and tools.
  • Help organize and manage project timelines, ensuring all deliverables are met and maintaining communication throughout the project, using project management tools like Asana and Service Now.
  • Participate in design reviews, receiving and incorporating feedback to enhance the quality of the project.
  • Keep files well-organized, properly archived after completion, and ensure they are accurately exported and formatted for both print and digital use within the SharePoint program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager to ensure the success of the department.

Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
