The Jumpstart Success Coach performs duties and responsibilities under the general direction of the TSI/Jumpstart Program Coordinator in the Academic Success Center. The Jumpstart Success Coach will provide structured and intentional support to students who are enrolled in developmental education courses due to their current TSI status on file. This position will work independently and in team settings to promote college readiness efforts, engagement, and the overall success of this student population. This is not a tutoring position. This role helps freshmen students with things like:
- getting acclimated to college life
- informing students about resources on campus
- tips for overcoming procrastination
- organization strategies / helping students plan out their semesters
- time management strategies
- study skills/notetaking strategies
- identifying challenges and obstacles that students face and help students come up with solutions and strategies to overcome challenges
- Reading Strategies
- Accountability
Jumpstart Success Coaches will acquire training during the Spring 2025 semester, and will work 5 hours per week remotely during the Summer 2025 semester. Jumpstart Success Coaches can work up to 20 hours per week during the Fall 2025 semester.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the recruitment of participants for the Summer 2025 Jumpstart@Sam program by sending e-mails/texts/phone calls to eligible participants
- Provide one-on-one mentoring and academic coaching for students who haven’t met the college readiness benchmark for both Reading/Writing and Math. (TSI Not Met – Texas Success Initiative)
- Assist with organized events designed for this student population (to include assistance with event planning, providing detailed information to students regarding the event, participation in events, event set-up/take down, etc.)
- Attend regular team meetings and trainings.
- Represent and support the Academic Success Center’s ongoing efforts to promote student success.
