Key Responsibilities:
- Edit and refine daily news and feature stories for accuracy, clarity, speed, and SEO performance, ensuring alignment with HUM News’ editorial standards.
- Perform rigorous fact-checking, headline optimization, and legal compliance checks before publication.
- Work closely with reporters and editors to clarify queries, improve story structure, and escalate editorial risks when required.
- Support video-led storytelling by:
- Reviewing and refining video scripts
- Suggesting strong hooks, headlines, and narrative flow for short-form and long-form video
- Ensuring consistency between written stories and accompanying video content.
- Implement SEO best practices including metadata, internal linking, and headline optimization to improve discoverability and search performance.
- Coordinate with video, social, and SEO teams to ensure stories are packaged effectively for digital platforms.
- Maintain editorial standards during breaking news, while managing speed, volume, and accuracy simultaneously.
Key Competencies:
- Strong editorial judgment with the ability to spot errors, improve structure, and make confident decisions under tight deadlines.
- Clear understanding of digital storytelling, including how news translates from text to video.
- Ability to handle high-volume workflows in a 24/7 digital newsroom environment.
- Working knowledge of CMS workflows, SEO principles, metadata hygiene, and performance-driven publishing.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across editorial, video, and growth teams.
- Ability to reprioritize quickly during breaking news without compromising accuracy or editorial integrity
Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field
Experience: 1–3 years (digital newsroom experience preferred)
