CNN Business Arabic, an IMI company, provides Arabic speakers around the world with global and regional economic, business, and finance news, facts, and analyses to help them understand the business angle of regional and global news stories.

Launched in 2023, the dedicated digital business platform is operated by IMI in partnership with CNN International Commercial (CNNIC). Leveraging the digital knowledge within the IMI group and combining this with the brand recognition and newsgathering capabilities of CNN, CNN Business Arabic aims to become the most comprehensive, coherent, trusted, timely, and creative global source of Arabic-language business and economic news.

Delivering breaking business news, insightful podcasts, and exclusive interviews with business leaders and influencers, the digital-first platform aims to inspire and empower current and future Arab business leaders and entrepreneurs in their daily quest for financial success, through engaging, visual, data-driven content.

Role Summary

The Sub-Editor will be responsible for writing and translating business stories and reports for a high-quality multimedia file targeted at a broad Arabic-speaking audience, including regional business and public affairs decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor news feeds on all news source aggregators for significant economic and business updates from governments, central banks, and key industry players across various sectors including oil, gas, energy, finance, tech, media, telecoms, transport, shipping, real estate, construction, luxury, tourism, and lodging.
• Write and edit spot stories based on verified updates and announcements, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and factual correctness.
• Translate news and video content from English to Arabic, maintaining high standards of accuracy and fairness.
• Collaborate with editors, reporters, foreign correspondents, writers, and multimedia producers to create a comprehensive and high-quality multimedia file.
• Adhere to standard editing procedures and CNNBA’s approved Stylebook.
• Stay informed about local and regional developments relevant to beat coverage.
• Participate in daily planning sessions and manage an ongoing story budget for daily coverage.
• Assign stories to reporters with clear instructions on multi-platform expectations, deadlines, and word counts.
• Review all incoming content to ensure it meets the assigned brief and request revisions if necessary.
• Ensure content is balanced, fair, and sensitive to cultural norms while avoiding legal issues.
• Be ready to cover certain events and film short stories or explainers.
• Uphold CNN’s ethical and editorial standards, focusing on accuracy, fairness, and anti-discrimination.
• Respect and reflect the social, cultural, and moral standards of the UAE and adhere to the political and strategic direction of the nation. Guide staff to uphold the brand’s reputation and respect IMI’s custodianship.

Role Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Journalism, Communication, Social Sciences, or related fields.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with respected media organizations.
• At least 1 year of experience as a business, economy, or industry reporter, or as a breaking news reporter.
• Excellent editorial skills in both Arabic and English.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• In-depth knowledge of the energy, commodities, and financial industries, including relevant Arabic terminology.
• Strong understanding of regional economics.
• Basic knowledge of multimedia and infographic production.
• Ability to work under pressure, including early mornings and late hours.
• Ability to multitask and collaborate with a large, dispersed team.
