Department Summary
Hiring two positions.

The Success Advisor will hold one-on-one academic advising and career coaching appointments on various topics including, graduation plans, major/career exploration, decision making, maximizing campus opportunities, and goal clarification. The Success Advisor is a member of an integrated college team providing individual academic, career, and related support to an assigned group of college students as they progress through a specific academic program. The Success Advisor provides a supportive environment of educational and career needs by ensuring students follow their approved course of study by building relationships with students while also guiding their career goals and reviewing pathways to graduation. The Success Advisor will engage students in post-graduate success by bridging the gap between college and lifelong career management skills; and develop educational programs and events and maintain key liaison relationships with university stakeholders.

Job duties include:
Academic Advising and Career Coaching Students:
  • Coach students in the appropriate academic and career guided pathways; provide academic advising, career coaching, and experiential learning support towards post-graduate success.
  • Deliver comprehensive advising and coaching support to an assigned group of students through degree completion, including academic intervention for struggling students.
  • Apply student development philosophy (appreciative advising, career theories) to provide comprehensive academic advising and career coaching to students from diverse backgrounds regarding degree program planning, career exploration and decisions, goal clarification, and personal life management.
  • Review student progress and track students through the use of graduation plans and other academic support services
  • Develop student graduation plans and provide semesterly touch points for students.
  • Leverage alumni and other relationships to optimize opportunities for career outcomes.
  • Collaborate across the institution with the “Student Success Hub”, various support offices, and colleges to provide excellent service and resources for students.
  • Participate in the development of retention strategies to assist students in completing their goal.
  • Regularly collaborate with faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.
  • Assist in organizing periodic signature events and programs for students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintain accurate notes and review audit reports for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals for experiential learning opportunities.


Specific College Needs:
  • Success Advisors may assist with recruiting and orienting students to Ohio University. This can include advising students through Bobcat Student Orientation prior to each semester, teaching learning community seminars, recommending learning community curricula, and representing the college at recruiting events and the Major’s Fair. The specific requirements for each position depend on the needs of the college.

Position Profile
Assists and empowers students to achieve academic success and social adjustment through a variety of student support activities. Coordinates services including academic tutoring, student learning centers, life skills support and coaching, etc. Shares resources with students through engagement and outreach opportunities.

Level Summary
Manages and resolves complex and ambiguous issues. Works on both strategic and operational challenges, addressing problems that require advanced knowledge and experience. Often takes on leadership roles in projects or initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides mentorship and guidance to team. Infrequently has a limited number of direct reports.

May have budgetary responsibility for small-scale projects or initiatives.

Solves complex problems, often with limited guidance.

Independence of Action
Works independently; seeks guidance for unusual situations.

Communication and Collaboration
Collaborates with team members and external departments. May represent the team in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

Physical Requirements
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 or more years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in College Student Personnel (CSP), Education, Counseling, or related field.

Pay Rate
The approved hiring range for this position is $44,592 to $59,085. Salary is commensurate with the selected candidate’s education and experience while considering internal equity.
