Summer Camp Assistant/ Substitute

Job Summary
Join our vibrant summer camp team as a Summer Camp Assistant/Substitute, where your energy and enthusiasm will help create an engaging, safe, and nurturing environment for children of all ages. In this dynamic role, you will support daily camp activities, step in as a substitute for lead staff, and assist with implementing fun and educational programs. This paid position offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with children, develop your teaching and childcare skills, and contribute to memorable summer experiences for young campers.

Duties

  • Assist in planning and executing daily camp activities that promote fun, learning, and social development
  • Step in as a substitute for lead or teachers when needed, ensuring seamless program delivery
  • Supervise children during activities, transitions, meals, and outdoor play to ensure safety at all times
  • Support campers with their individual needs, including behavior management and encouragement
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment by helping with setup and cleanup of activity areas
  • Follow all safety protocols, including administering basic first aid when necessary and reporting incidents promptly
  • Foster a positive camp atmosphere by encouraging teamwork, inclusivity, and Christian values where applicable
  • Help with caring for toddlers like diapering and toileting

Skills

  • Strong classroom management skills to maintain order and promote positive behavior
  • Knowledge of first aid procedures to respond effectively to minor injuries or emergencies
  • Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, including daycare or early childhood education
  • Ability to adapt quickly as a substitute staff member across various activities and age groups
  • Excellent communication skills to engage children, parents, and team members effectively
  • Background in special education or childhood development is a plus for supporting diverse needs
  • Enthusiasm for sports coaching, theater arts, babysitting and tutoring enhances your ability to connect with campers
  • Demonstrated ability to manage behavior positively while fostering a safe and inclusive environment
