Summer Intern- Peer Tutor
Salary: $12.00-$13.00 per hour
Summer interns also receive complimentary housing and a 50% discount on cafeteria meals.
I. Position Purpose
The Peer Tutor Student Employee provides academic support to fellow Hocking College students, helping them develop relevant skills and strengthen subject knowledge to support their academic success and future career readiness.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide academic tutoring assistance to Hocking College students in assigned subject areas.
- Coordinate with lead instructors in applicable subject areas to ensure alignment with course objectives and expectations.
- Check and respond to emails in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of tutoring sessions, including dates, duration, and topics covered
- Assist students with accessing course materials and learning resources.
- Refer students to appropriate campus services when necessary.
- Support instructors with course-related activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Deliver excellent customer service in all interactions.
III. Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
Education & Academic Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled as a Hocking College student for the Fall semester.
- Must meet federal requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Minimum grade of B in the course/subject to be tutored.
- Instructor recommendation from the course/subject area to be tutored.
- English tutors must have completed English 1510 (or equivalent) with a grade of A.

- Ability to clearly explain concepts and answer questions effectively.
- Ability to encourage discussion and student participation.
- Basic computer proficiency and digital literacy.
- Demonstrated promptness and dependability.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Strong motivation to support student success and encourage consistent tutoring engagement.
