Summer Park Worker

Silver Lake State Park currently has positions to fill at the ORV Area and Campground. This is a seasonal position beginning on April 12, 2026 and ending on October 10, 2026.

If you are interested in laying the foundation for a career in natural resources, a seasonal park worker position with the DNR Parks and Recreation Division may be right for you.

These frontline staff help answer visitor questions, register campers, clean park buildings, mow grass, maintain trails and more. The positions start at an hourly rate of $15.50 and offer flexible scheduling (up to 1,040 hours between April and October) and may qualify for academic or internship credit.

Applicants should be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be able to work weekends and holidays.

The position requires employees to:

Sell Recreation Passport and ORV Permits

Register camps using a computerized registration system

Perform landscaping duties, lawn mowing, string trimming, shoveling and leaf removal

Ensure customer compliance with park regulations

Perform janitorial duties including cleaning and maintaining restroom and shower buildings

This position requires employees to work days, afternoons, evenings and / or nights including holidays and weekends. Duties and schedules may change periodically during employment period. Full time employment during operating season is preferred. A State of Michigan benefit package will not be provided for this position.

Pre-employment drug screening is mandatory and proof of valid driver's license and social security card is required at time of hire.

Be aware that considerable physical effort may be required on a regular basis to complete some outdoor maintenance tasks. This job requires standing in some work locations for long periods of time. Work may be performed in wet, cold or hot conditions. Outdoor activities may account for 50% or more of the work time.
