The Town of Waldoboro is accepting applications for a full time, seasonal Summer Recreation Program Leader.

Job Summary
Join our fun summer recreation program as a Summer Recreation Program Leader! In this dynamic role, you will inspire and guide children and youth through engaging activities that promote fun, learning, and personal growth. You will be responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and energetic environment where participants can explore new interests, develop social skills, and enjoy memorable summer experiences. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact while honing your leadership and childcare skills.

This is a seasonal, full-time position (40 hours per week) at a starting pay of $21.50/hr., based on skills and experience. Employment is from June 22nd - August 7th, 2026. The successful candidate must be well organized, detailed and people oriented, and have experience supervising large groups of children. Background check required prior to beginning employment.

The Waldoboro Summer Recreation Program provides seven weeks of structured activities and field trips for Waldoboro children entering first through seventh grade. Activities include weekly swimming or hiking trips, games, arts/crafts etc.

Duties

  • Lead and supervise daily recreational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, theater, and outdoor games, ensuring all participants are actively engaged and safe.
  • Manage behavior and facilitate positive interactions among children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Implement age-appropriate plans that support childhood development
  • Provide first aid when necessary, following safety protocols to address minor injuries or health concerns promptly.
  • Work with other staff to organize special themed activities that enhance the summer program experience.
  • Maintain clear communication with parents or guardians regarding participant progress or concerns.
  • Uphold all safety standards to ensure a secure environment for everyone.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with children in settings such as daycare, camp, tutoring, babysitting, or after-school programs is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies to foster a positive atmosphere.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with children, parents, and team members effectively.
