Superintendent ~ Steel Fabrication Shop

Steel Fabrication company in South Seattle seeks a hardworking, dependable Shop Superintendent. This is not an entry level position. Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a supervisor and or a fitter, not a welder. Our company works exclusively in hot-rolled steel, specializing in structural work. Our scope of work includes structural beams and columns, canopies, stairs, embeds, and handrail.
Applicant must possess the following:
  • The ability to organize project schedules and commitments, optimize production to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Manage shop employees – Daily tasks, attendance, discipline, advancement, teaching skills
  • Monitoring employees’ workloads, breaks & lunch breaks.
  • Safety – Constant assessment, monthly safety meeting with topic and documented. Mitigate safety risks through proper training of staff, maintenance of equipment, and compliance of health/safety codes (OSHA, WISHA and company safety policies).
  • Reading Memos/Drawings thoroughly and understanding type of work, recognizing what types of procedures/fabrication are required per drawings. Talk to Project manager(s) about what the shop may need to facilitate completing tasks, i.e.: shape cut plates, bevels, outside cutting or processing.
  • Ability to set up layout on a large scale, direct fitting steel beams and columns with great accuracy
  • Possess the knowledge to build various types of stairs and handrails, structural steel, & architectural/miscellaneous steel so that you can aid in layout, QC, and the instruction of younger fabricators.
  • Must have good understanding of erection and shop drawings so that you can find potential issues in fabrication and suggest potential solutions to office/detailers.
  • Must have a good grasp on D1.1, D1.8, and basic AISC code.
  • Order consumables, tools, and equipment, Authorize shop purchases, provide receipts & invoices for accounting.
  • Must know how to properly diagnose issues with welders and wire feeders.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of electricity and 3-phase power.
  • Delegate work to fitters/welders to ensure products are fabricated efficiently, correctly, comply with industry and company quality standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure customers receive products in a timely matter.
  • Need to be able to write thorough weld procedures.
  • Schedule Outside Q.C. inspections timely, not impact production or shipping requirements.
  • Must handle issues that arise with/amongst staff in a professional manner.
  • Understanding of pre-qualified welding procedures.
  • Proficient with ironworking tools and equipment: oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutter, grinders, bandsaws, ironworker, notchers, presses, drills, taps, pneumatic tools, overhead cranes, rigging, forklifts, etc....
  • Maintenance of Facility & Equipment, Inventory of Equipment & Tools, Assign personnel for maintenance of bathrooms/yard/bldg.
  • Recognize when work is getting low and when workload is high and notify office and or move to overtime to avoid missing delivery schedule(s).
  • Vehicle Maintenance~ work with shipping for maintenance of all vehicles keeping them operational & schedule regular service
  • Provide insight and communicate to Management for what will help you to do your job better.
  • Be on site from 6am-2:30pm, 5 days a week.
  • Have reliable transportation to the Seattle Area
Compensation: $45.50 to $49.00 hour DOE, Medical, Dental and 6 paid holidays and PTO after 60-90 days
Employment type: Full-Time
This is a full-time day shift position (at facility in Seattle),
M-F 6am-2:30pm, with overtime at time and a half.
Compensation is dependent on experience, with a review after a 90-day period.
Must be US work eligible and drug free.
