Responsible for the daily scheduling, planning and direct supervision of Meter Shop activities relating to testing, installation, removal and changes of meter and measurement equipment. Responsible for ensuring that meter shop output supports all meter exchange goals and requirements, and the Automated Meter Reading (AMR) project. Maintain accurate files and records for preparation of meter balance sheets, capital records, meter histories and test procedures. Develop continuous improvement initiatives throughout meter shop operations and keeps abreast of new and emerging metering technologies. Responsible for meeting requirements of the DPU and other state and regulatory agencies.
This position is multi-faceted with responsibilities which include work planning and coordination, scheduling, execution of fieldwork activities, performance measurement, coaching, mentoring and various administrative duties. Directly supervises meter shop personnel.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises testing, repairing and calibration of gas meters, meter devices, pressure control instrumentation and metering equipment. Responsible for the accuracy of all metering equipment and response to trouble and emergency calls.
  • Responsible for large volume meter upgrade projects, including the replacement of indexes and instruments to support AMR. Responsible for implementation of the ERT replacement strategy.
  • Coordinates with Gas Sales, Service and Distribution for timely completion of all outstanding meter orders and seven-year exchanges. Ensures an adequate supply of meters are available to meet demands.
  • Ensures all completed work meets the appropriate city, state or federal regulations. Acts as Company liaison with the State Meter Inspector.
  • Responsible for operating a safe, efficient and environmentally sound workplace. Ensures the safety of personnel by taking direct preventive measures, conducting effective monthly safety meetings and ensuring all related standards, rules and laws are understood and followed.
  • Maintains familiarization with federal, state and Company codes and standards to ensure compliance with all regulations.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging metering and AMR technologies. Identifies, develops and implements work process and practice improvements.
  • Manages performance by reviewing and evaluating work of employees. Identifies, builds consensus and communicates performance measures and expected performance levels. Assesses and improves team and employee performance through coaching and on-the-job training.
  • Ensures compliance with Company work rules and procedures. Understands and complies with the labor contract and works to resolve initial grievances. Initiates appropriate disciplinary action, when required.

Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Requires knowledge of large volume metering equipment installation and maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Requires a full understanding of federal, state and Company codes and standards.
  • Requires project and schedule management skills, including computerized work and materials management and scheduling tools.
  • Good written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively to customers, staff, peers and management.
  • Requires conflict resolution and teamwork skills to resolve issues and work effectively with customers, staff, peers and management.
  • Requires working knowledge of labor contracts. Ability to use PC desktop applications (e.g. Microsoft Word & Excel).

Education:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, related discipline or related experience.

Experience:

  • Five (5) or more years of related experience is required.
  • Experience in utilities preferred, natural gas experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the following areas preferred: warehousing, pressure regulation, and/or metering.
  • Previous leadership experience is also preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator License is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required Operator Qualifications.

Working Conditions:

This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing.

  • Work is conducted outside, in varied conditions and terrain, including adverse weather conditions, and in a normal office environment. Work requires sitting, walking, standing, stair climbing, completion of paperwork, using a telephone and computer and attending meetings. Drives to various job site locations and customer premises to supervise work. May work with computers for long periods of time during the day. Subject to shift work including weekends. Off-hour on-call responsibility is required on a rotational basis. At times, requires working long hours in response to outage situations and shift coverage requirements.
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

$119,220.00-$132,470.00
