The Opportunity

We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Engineer or Supplier Quality Engineer to join the Quality team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that both internal quality processes and external suppliers consistently meet the company’s strict quality standards, safety requirements, and regulatory expectations.

While the position has a strong supplier quality focus, it also supports broader quality assurance initiatives including supplier audits, receiving inspection oversight, supplier corrective actions, and root cause analysis.

A key aspect of this role is the ability to independently perform supplier audits and drive corrective actions with suppliers. The ideal candidate will be comfortable identifying process gaps, conducting structured root cause investigations, and ensuring suppliers implement effective corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring issues.

The Quality Assurance Engineer or Supplier Quality Engineer will work cross-functionally with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to improve supplier performance and support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance overall product quality and customer satisfaction.

This role reports directly to the VP of Quality and supports the broader Quality Department.


Key Responsibilities

Supplier Auditing & Evaluation

  • Conduct supplier audits, assessments, and qualifications for new and existing suppliers
  • Perform detailed evaluations of supplier quality systems, manufacturing processes, and compliance standards
  • Prepare audit reports and communicate findings with internal teams and supplier partners
  • Identify gaps in supplier processes and drive corrective actions to ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Ensure suppliers consistently meet regulatory and company quality expectations


Supplier Quality & Performance Management

  • Monitor supplier performance metrics and track key quality KPIs
  • Analyze supplier data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Proactively address supplier quality issues before they impact production
  • Work closely with suppliers to improve manufacturing processes and quality controls


Receiving Inspection & Incoming Quality

Receiving inspection is a critical function of this role.

  • Work closely with operations and quality teams to ensure effective receiving inspection processes are implemented and maintained
  • Review incoming material inspection results and verify supplier components meet required specifications
  • Investigate incoming material issues and coordinate resolution with suppliers and internal teams
  • Ensure incoming inspection findings are documented and incorporated into supplier performance evaluations


Corrective Actions & Root Cause Analysis

A major responsibility of this role is driving supplier corrective actions and root cause investigations.

  • Manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR) and ensure timely resolution of supplier non-conformances
  • Lead structured root cause investigations using methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, and FMEA
  • Work directly with suppliers to develop corrective and preventive actions that eliminate recurring defects
  • Verify effectiveness of corrective actions and ensure issues do not reoccur
  • Escalate unresolved supplier quality issues when necessary


Quality Systems & Process Development

  • Develop and maintain supplier quality plans, inspection procedures, and quality documentation
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9102, or ISO 13485
  • Support documentation control and quality system compliance
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen supplier quality processes and systems
  • Assist in developing or improving quality procedures that enhance supplier performance


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Purchasing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to resolve supplier quality issues
  • Support supplier readiness for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs
  • Collaborate with operations teams to identify quality improvement opportunities
  • Assist in developing quality-related training materials for internal teams


Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze quality metrics, supplier data, and defect trends to identify improvement opportunities
  • Drive initiatives that improve supplier performance, product quality, and operational efficiency
  • Support the organization’s commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Quality Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, or similar role within a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience conducting supplier audits and supplier quality assessments
  • Strong hands-on experience with receiving inspection and incoming material quality evaluation
  • Proven experience managing supplier non-conformances and Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR)
  • Strong expertise in root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, or FMEA
  • Solid understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Familiarity with quality tools such as SPC, Pareto analysis, and GD&T
  • Experience working with suppliers supporting electrical assemblies, wire harnesses, or cable assemblies preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification required (minimum)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with suppliers and internal teams
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and strengthen quality systems when needed


Travel

Currently, the role does not require regular travel to supplier locations. However, as the organization continues to expand its supplier base and operations, occasional supplier visits or audits may be required in the future.

Expected travel could be up to approximately 10%, potentially beginning within the next 1–2 years, to support supplier audits and quality evaluations.
