Surgical Scheduler – Oculofacial Plastic Surgery
POSITION: Surgical Coordinator
RESPONSIBLE TO: Surgeon and Practice Manager
JOB SUMMARY: The Surgical Coordinator schedules procedures according to established guidelines. He/she facilitates all aspects of the surgical patient’s surgery experience and manages corresponding documentation, testing, appointments, authorizations, supplies, and payments.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required
- Experience in ophthalmology, dermatology and/or plastic surgery a plus
- 1-2 years of experience as a surgical coordinator
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Fast-paced and demanding.
- The Surgical Coordinator will have consistent and, at times, interruptive contact with medical staff and patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide patients with new patient packets, brochures, lab reminder letters, prescriptions, and instructions.
- Schedule, reschedule, coordinate, and confirm patients’ surgical appointments.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills and comfort discussing cosmetic surgical fees and procedures.
- Schedule and coordinate anesthesia for surgeries.
- Order and track surgical supplies.
- Complete surgical checklist and carefully review surgical chart prior to giving to surgeon
- Obtain appropriate consents, authorizations, documents, tests, imaging, and medical clearances.
- Reminds patients of any special instructions related to their surgery 2 weeks prior to surgery.
- Maintain and update current information on the physician's surgery schedule.
- Maintain surgical schedule and get approval from surgeon on case numbers and case order.
- Communicate any changes with the surgical staff.
- Assemble surgical charts and update patient profiles.
- File documents and charts including all communications with patients, operative notes, photos.
- Verify medical documentation and reports are complete and signed and charted.
- Provide clerical support such as typing, composing, proofreading, and transcribing correspondence.
- Answer telephone, screen calls, take messages, provide information regarding surgical appointments, testing, and scheduling.
- Receive deposits and surgical payments from patients and issue receipts.
- Keep records of surgical fees, cost of goods, invoices from anesthesia and surgical center.
- Assists office manager in maintaining credentialing at surgery centers and hospitals
- Ensures all pathology reports or correspondence related to surgery are properly documented and charted.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
Job Types: Part-time, Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
