Systems Administrator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and security-conscious Systems Administrator to help manage and support our Microsoft-based infrastructure. This role requires expertise in Microsoft Azure, Active Directory, and Windows Server administration, with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity and disaster recovery best practices. The ideal candidate will ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our Azure cloud environment while proactively identifying and mitigating risks alongside our Darktrace Cybersecurity implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft Azure services including VMs, networking, storage, and identity.
  • Manage Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022), including patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and optimize Windows Server VMs, AD, Domain Controllers, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, and related services.
  • Implement and manage Azure/Entra AD, Conditional Access, Intune, and Hybrid Identity solutions.

Cybersecurity

  • Work with our Cybersecurity provider, Darktrace, to monitor and respond to security incidents.
  • Use tools like Microsoft Defender for Cloud, M365 Security Center to enhance our security posture.
  • Enhance existing security policies and procedures.
  • Enforce security policies and harden systems.
  • Support compliance initiatives (e.g., NIST) through documentation and technical controls.
  • Collaborate with existing team to manage endpoint protection.

Cloud & Automation

  • Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or ARM/Bicep templates.
  • Support disaster recovery strategies.
  • Monitor system health and performance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Event Viewer.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on IT projects and incident response.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3–5+ years of experience in systems administration with a focus on Microsoft technologies.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure IaaS/PaaS, Azure AD, and Windows Server.
  • Proficient in Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, tools, and frameworks.
  • Experience with SIEM, EDR, and identity protection tools.

Certifications:

Certifications are not required but would be an asset.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals
  • CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
