There is always something new to learn and we encourage staff to attend industry classes to broaden their knowledge and earn certifications. After approximately a six-month training period, new employees may have an opportunity to work a rotating hybrid work schedule.

Every day is different in the tax office and your daily responsibilities will vary as a Tax Analyst.

Daily Responsibilities:
Perform technical and analytical work supporting quality assurance, data analysis, and reporting within the business and individual personal property program
Review appraisal work, listings, and related records to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with statutes, policies, and procedures
Analyze data from tax systems, develop reports, and communicate findings to management
Provide technical guidance and support to staff, including training and process improvements
Identify discrepancies, analyze trends, and recommend improvements using sound judgment and established guidelines

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field
Four years of experience in property taxation, auditing, data analytics, quality control, or related work.
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

Four years of experience working with ad valorem property taxes in North Carolina
NCDOR Personal Property Appraiser Certification

How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
Knowledge of business and individual personal property listing procedures and appraisal terminology.
Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Excel with the ability to develop detailed spreadsheets and tables.
Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret data and reports.
Ability to identify discrepancies and trends in data or work products.
Advanced critical thinking and project management skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize.
Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment in performing the duties of the position.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Employment Type: Regular

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 8:25am - 5:10pm

Hiring Range: $26.54 - $34.07

Market Range: 26.54 - 41.59
