You just might be the person we are looking for if you have :

Bachelor’s degree in related field

Valid Texas teacher certification special education

Ability to work effectively between the school and community

Experience in teaching students with emotional/behavior problems preferred

The mission of this role:

Provide special education instruction to meet the needs of students with emotional and/or behavior disorders.

What success looks like for this role :

  • Attend ARD meetings for students eligible for special education.
  • Complete local, state and federal paper work required for program participation.
  • Assist in developing instruction programs for eligible students to achieve mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) at the appropriate instruction level or IEP goals as developed at the ARD meeting.
  • Develop and maintain weekly lesson plans that address the IEP objectives.
  • Consult with regular education teachers to assist in providing an appropriate education for eligible students.
  • Provide appropriate behavior management techniques and physical restraint for eligible students and maintain documentation of student behavior.
  • Administer appropriate testing for students, as determined by the ARD committee including TAKS, SDAA and/or LDAA exams to measure yearly educational progress.
  • Obtain and retain appropriate documentation of instructional development and mastery, including an accurate grade book in accordance with KISD procedures.
  • Monitor student behavior going to and from transportation, during PE, in the cafeteria and in the halls.
  • Attend campus meetings, as required by the campus administration.
  • Conduct parent conferences, as needed, to discuss student programming and progress.
  • Keep current and apply state of the art educational practices.
  • Up-date all required ARD paperwork in accordance with KISD procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain the Crisis Prevention Intervention training and maintain certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
