SUMMARY

As a Build Specialist – Ground Systems, you will support the execution of large-scale infrastructure and test site construction projects. This role will report to the Senior Build Manager, you will bridge the gap between engineering design and on-site execution, helping coordinate fabrication, integration, installation, and commissioning activities across multiple technical GSE disciplines. This role is for a highly organized, hands-on contributor who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about spaceflight operations, precision fabrication, and technical problem-solving.

Traveling to build locations is a requirement of this role. Travel rotations will be established depending on the build schedule and milestone dates. During build down times, this role will be expected to report to Briggs, Tx, for 1 week every 6 weeks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Direct and assist with component assembly build
  • Coordinate material staging, logistics, and subcontractor activities to maintain schedule alignment.
  • Manage part, tool and consumable inventory for the build team
  • Ensure installation and fabrication activities adhere to design intent and Firefly standards.

Technical Support

  • Review drawings and models to prepare work packages, tool lists, and installation sequences.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues during fabrication, integration, and commissioning.
  • Support implementation of design changes and redlines, ensuring accurate as-built documentation.
  • Verify system interfaces and mechanical/electrical fit-ups prior to testing and turnover.

Quality & Safety Oversight

  • Conduct pre-task safety briefings and enforce site safety standards in alignment with company policies.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections; identify and document non-conformances.
  • Support implementation of corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Documentation & Communication

  • Maintain accurate build records, checklists, and turnover packages for each project phase.
  • Interface with purchasing, logistics, and vendor teams to track deliveries and resolve supply issues.
  • Provide consistent communication between engineering, operations, and field teams to ensure seamless handoffs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 7 Minimum years of hands-on experience in aerospace manufacturing, construction, and ground systems assembly.
  • Strong technical literacy with ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience coordinating multi-discipline field operations (mechanical, fluids, electrical, and civil).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accountability.
  • Familiarity with fabrication processes, inspection methods, and basic project management tools.
  • Ability to work in outdoor industrial environments and travel to remote build sites performing the above responsibilities.

Desired

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Experience with ERP or project tracking systems (Odoo, Confluence, Jira, etc.).
  • Familiarity with ASME and AWS standards (Y14.5, D1.1).
  • Working knowledge of crane, forklift, and rigging operations.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction across projects
