Technical Operations Manager

Concordia Fibers, a world class converter of synthetic yarns and carbon fiber for use in high end textile applications and advanced composites, is looking for to join our technical support team to support challenging new business opportunities within our composite fibers business. Concordia Fibers, founded in 1920 as a manufacturer of silk yarns, has re-engineered its textile capabilities over the past 105 years to expand into synthetic yarns and yarns for advanced composites in the aerospace, automotive, filtration media, power transmission belts, and many other industries. We have developed new proprietary fiber processes to support the growing requirement for weight-saving carbon and glass composites in numerous market segments.

Plan, direct, or coordinate the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Improves and maintains current systems by performing process experimentation and capability studies using applicable six sigma tools for experiment setup and analysis.
  • Validates and revalidates new or modified products, equipment, or systems.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves industrial manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Research and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Review process flow and equipment setup methods and identify and implement improvements to streamline and eliminate waste.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Lead new product builds on the floor; providing proper documentation, training of operators, ordering and tracking of raw materials, scheduling of prototype build and ensuring process capability to meet customer requirements.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with vendors in order to determine specifications of products and arrange equipment, material purchase, and parts.
  • Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.
  • Supervise engineering maintenance staff and oversee the preventative maintenance (PM) system and PM schedule for all plant machinery.
  • Monitor and record all corrective maintenance activity and track for any trends that require permanent solutions.
  • Create budgets and track expenses for all equipment repair and maintenance activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead the purchase, installation and qualification of new equipment, materials, or parts to support production expansion or improvements.
  • Direct and coordinate the new production, processing, and distribution activities of a Textile production organization.
  • Review processing schedules or production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Participate in Sales decisions concerning new products by using product specifications and release dates to determine product costs and resource needs.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education : Minimum of Associates Degree and 5 years in manufacturing, part of which is in a supervisory role. BS in Engineering: Industrial, Mechanical, or Textile preferred

Experience : Background with manufacturing methods, supervision, process improvement programs and procedures required. Textiles experience a plus but not required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work performed in an office environment with moderate exposure to elements of a factory environment such as noise, dust, heat, cold, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
