The City of Paso Robles is looking for Temporary Library Services Representatives to assist patrons, support programs and events, help with technology and library resources, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations. This role offers hands-on experience, the chance to interact with people of all ages, and the opportunity to make a real impact in a welcoming and dynamic environment.
Assignment Duration: Approximately four to six months, however the exact duration is unknown.
Schedule: Approximately 16-18 hours per week. Some evenings until 7:00 pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am-4:00 pm will be required.

Knowledge of:

Standard library operations, circulation, and patron service procedures, including check-in/out, holds, and account management.

Library management systems, such as Koha/Aspen, and basic office software (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat).

Techniques for providing excellent customer service to diverse populations, including children, seniors, and the general public.

Methods for promoting library programs and community outreach initiatives.

Records management principles, including tracking, reporting, and maintaining statistical information.

Basic office equipment, including computers, printers, and copiers.

English usage, spelling, grammar, and professional written communication for correspondence and materials.
Ability to:-
Accurately perform circulation and administrative tasks using library software and office applications.

Assist patrons with registration, research, book selection, printing, and other library services.

Support library programs, including children’s programs, bulletin boards, and special events.

Deliver excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and via email.

Conduct community outreach and represent the library at schools, parks, early learning centers, senior facilities, and events.

Track and report daily statistics, maintain records, and perform light housekeeping of public areas.

Learn and apply new procedures, systems, and software quickly.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff, volunteers, and the public.

Prioritize work, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and exercise sound judgment in responding to requests.

Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
Education and Experience
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Graduation from high school or possession of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate; and

Either one year of related work experience in a library, office, or classroom setting, or as an intern in an accredited college/university graduate school program.
Bilingual and biliterate proficiency in Spanish, as well as strong customer service experience, are both desirable.
