Summary

Under supervision, pick up, sort, and deliver mail throughout Project facilities and departments. Operate various types of mail processing equipment, perform light manual tasks and related clerical work, drive a light motor vehicle and van, and learn and follow postal and shipping regulations. Internal client interaction to address mailing topics and issues.


Any one position may not include all duties nor do the example of duties include all tasks, which may be found in the position of this class.

What You'll Do

  • Pick up and deliver mail throughout Project facilities and departments, traveling to the various locations by driving a light motor vehicle.
  • Sort incoming mail according to department location and mail type.
  • Utilize all manner of computerized systems and tools necessary to perform the work within the department.
  • Operate various machines connected with the printing, sorting, collating, labeling, inserting, weighing, metering, bar-coding, x-raying and distribution of mail and packages.
  • Make routing set-up and adjustments, as required, and minor repairs on mailing equipment as required.
  • Perform related clerical work and maintain records generated as a result of postal and/or shipping records.
  • Assist other employees when workloads vary or are adjusted by the lead messenger or management.
  • Ensure safety and security procedures are implemented and followed. Determine appropriate safety actions beyond guidelines and report potentially unsafe conditions or behavior.
  • Ensure proper management of unused materials and preparation for transfer to proper locations.
  • Perform record keeping and shipping and receiving services USPS, FedEx, UPS, and other
  • Priority mail including letters, small parcels and box deliveries.
  • Observe safety and security procedures. Determine appropriate action beyond guidelines.
  • Report potentially unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Perform light manual tasks related to mail services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications

Position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks. Must be able to effectively manage deadline pressures while maintaining and displaying a positive attitude and a commitment to safety and customer service. Position requires the ability to communicate clear and concise status updates between clients and work team verbally and/or through written communications. Position requires an extreme level of commitment to safety and compliance to rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Must understand fully the level of exposure and liability that exists in the performance of work in the production environment. Must have the ability to operate light vehicles and forklifts with knowledge of working rules and safety requirements and procedures. Must have high integrity and willingness to take ownership. Must possess strong decision making skills. Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in work assignments. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, accurately and in a cost effective manner. Continually maintain a professional and courteous relationship with all clients. Must have good oral and written communication skills. Must have good hand and eye coordination. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Subject to extended work days, call-outs, and changing shifts and work location. Required considerable physical exertion and dexterity to handle equipment. Must exercise independent judgment in the safe and efficient operation of mail services. Must be able to work harmoniously with employees at all levels throughout the Project. A high degree of dependability is essential in this position in so this trait can be distinguished prior to acceptance.
