Job Description:
TOR Engineering is looking for a Designer III to provide design services to support our overhead & underground Transmission and Distribution projects for both utility and commercial clients. Projects can typically vary from 4kV thru 500kV. This position is an advanced level position open to individuals with at least 4 years of Transmission and/or Distribution Power Systems Design experience.
Individual should have an eye for detail, have a good work ethic and be a team player. A mind for space planning and strong visualization skills is a plus. Creativity is a must. Candidate should have a customer service-oriented approach, as the position will require a flexible approach to designs driven by customer input. Our dynamic team is comprised of Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, and seasoned Designers who support our Electric Utility customers’ Infrastructure Engineering and Customer Construction projects. Projects can range from handling new medium voltage electrical feeder systems to providing power solutions for new residential subdivisions, apartment complexes, and commercial buildings.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide CAD support to PM’s, Engineers, and Designers on electrical projects for various utility and commercial clients.
- Develop Base maps, Plan & Profiles, Primary & Conduit Diagrams, Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, Above & Below Grade construction drawing sets.
- Coordinate Sub-consultants in Civil, Structural, Relaying, and other disciplines as related to project specific deliverables.
- Develop detailed Bills of Material documenting all major and minor items.
- Develop Cable Routing & Pulling Schedules.
- Develop and review of equipment and construction technical specifications.
- Communicate with TOR Engineers and attend meetings for design reviews and updates on the project with TOR clients.
- Perform yellow lines of own or others work with another engineer or designer.
- Perform site visits, take notes and measurements of field conditions to compare with existing substation drawings.
- Design of projects which adhere to National Electric Safety Code and meet the standards of clients and TOR.
- Support the oversight, mentorship, and training for junior Designer staff.
General Requirements:
- Strong background in Transmission and/or Distribution Power Systems Design is a must. At least 4 years of comparable experience is required.
- Experience working with Arizona utilities is highly prioritized (TEP, SRP, APS, etc.)
- Must be self-motivated and able to communicate and work well within a design team and customers to ensure successful design of the entire project.
- Familiarity with Right of Way, Property Easements, underground utilities (water, sewer, communications, gas, etc.).
- Knowledge of computer aided drafting (CAD) software is required. Priority will be placed on candidates with proficiency in both AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Experience with AutoCAD Utility Design / Bentley Open Utilities Design.
- Experience with Smallworld and/or ESRI ArcGIS.
- Minimum Education Requirements: Associate’s Degree; 1 year related Designer experience.
