GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Tool Librarian Associate is responsible for providing support for the Lending library. This role involves assisting patrons with tool and equipment lending, maintaining inventory, working with and coordinating volunteers and outside contractors, performing administrative tasks, and engaging with the community. The Tool Librarian Associate will also oversee tool know how and instruction, safety, and tool maintenance ensuring tools are in good condition and providing expert advice on home maintenance and repairs.

As a member of the facilities team, you will enhance customer experience by providing a superior level of cleaning quality and maintaining the library in like-new conditions through excellent housekeeping and maintenance practices. In your role, you will assist with building, mechanical, landscape, and tool library maintenance. You understand that safety is our top priority and practice safe behaviors in everything that you do and assist in providing a safe and secure environment for the library visitors, volunteers, and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides customer service and assists Lending library patrons with locating Lending tools, equipment, and information.
  • Selects and lends a variety of Camping, Cycling, building trade and gardening tools and other equipment to patrons.
  • Recommends the purchase of tools and equipment.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in an operable condition, including making basic repairs, and sending tools and equipment out to private tool repair companies when more difficult repair is required.
  • Maintains the reserve and waiting list, retrieves overdue materials.
  • Processes lending requests and advises patrons on the correct and safe use of tools and equipment; provides basic recommendations for patrons regarding home maintenance and repair.
  • Collects and maintains records and prepares reports regarding tools and equipment borrowed, patron demographics.
  • Monitors’ expenditures related to tool and equipment repair and purchase and may assist with program budget preparation and administrative duties.
  • Engages the community through various means, including attending meetings and events.
  • Provides support to the marketing team who prepares a variety of written materials, including publicity flyers, news releases, program brochures, and narrative reports.
  • Maintains lending library in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assists with monitoring developments related to tools, equipment, and instructional material on home maintenance and repair.
  • Effectively communicate to customers regarding a variety of topics including, but not limited to, library products and services, policies, responsibilities, and code of conduct. Blend creativity, problem solving, and decision making to positively impact the customer experience, de-escalate any negative situations and resolve customer questions and concerns.
  • Display excellent time management skills, attention to detail, problem solving skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to work proactively to balance multiple tasks and prioritize work. Complete work at an appropriate pace with a sense of urgency. Seek out areas that require cleaning and take initiative to complete tasks.
  • Conduct special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains inventory records.
  • Orients and trains support staff and volunteers
  • Protect library assets and ensure building security by monitoring security gates, adhering to library policies, and following appropriate closing procedures.
  • Always model and support library brand. Represent your department on various library committees as assigned.
  • Assume personal responsibility for the building's condition and solve minor issues and problems as they arise.
  • Report to work punctually, dressed in approved uniform, and fully prepared for each scheduled shift.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience with a working knowledge of the tools and equipment used, customer service, or office administrative experience.
  • Maintenance of a valid Arkansas driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as assigned that includes evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts is required.
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective and valued team member.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, follow-up on assignments, direct and perform quality maintenance services.
  • Ability to learn and carry out emergency procedures.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and equipment, including applicable software.
  • Knowledge of databases and online and print resources.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and instructional manuals used in building repair and construction trades, culinary arts, bike repair, and automotive equipment.
  • Basic building maintenance repair and maintenance procedures and terminology.
  • Multilingual skills a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Ability to consistently tolerate an office environment with typical HVAC performance, ability to function well with the noise level typically associated with an office environment. Must be able to occasionally tolerate some loud noise from large equipment such as cleaning, HVAC, power washers, drills, leaf blowers, etc.

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock; occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, wet or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
