Roles & Responsibilities
1. Tool Maintenance & Management
- Manage and maintain all tools, dies, moulds, jigs, and fixtures.
- Conduct preventive and breakdown maintenance as per schedule.
- Monitor tool life, wear, and initiate refurbishment or replacement.
- Maintain tool inventory, tool history cards, and maintenance logs.
2. Production Support
- Provide technical support to production for smooth operations.
- Troubleshoot tooling-related issues (dimension variation, wear, burrs, cracks).
- Ensure correct tool setting parameters are followed.
3. New Tool Development
- Coordinate with Design and Production teams for new tool development.
- Assist in tool trials, validation, and modifications.
- Ensure new tools meet quality and performance requirements.
4. Quality Assurance
- Ensure dimensional accuracy and product quality through proper tool maintenance.
- Coordinate with QA for deviations and corrective actions.
- Inspect tools after maintenance or modification.
5. Inventory & Procurement
- Maintain stock of tool steels, inserts, punches, dies, and consumables.
- Raise purchase requisitions for tooling items and follow up with vendors.
- Control tooling cost and reduce wastage.
6. Team Management
- Supervise tool room technicians and operators.
- Assign tasks, monitor work, and ensure timely completion.
- Train team members on tool handling, safety, and best practices.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports on tooling status.
- Maintain breakdown analysis and preventive maintenance reports.
- Ensure all documentation is up to date as per audit requirements.
8. Safety & 5S
- Ensure tool room safety procedures are followed.
- Implement and maintain 5S in tool room and related areas.
Key Skills Required
- Knowledge of tool design, tool materials, and machining processes.
- Hands-on experience with tool room machines (CNC, EDM, grinders, milling, lathe).
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and team leadership capabilities.
- Understanding of ISO/TS quality standards (added advantage).
