Transit Dispatcher

Position Summary





Lincoln County Transit is looking for a Transit Dispatcher to join their team in their mission to connect all parts of Lincoln County. This person will dispatch and schedule for Lincoln County Transportation Service District (TRANSIT) system, which includes Dial-A-Ride and regular Transit Operations. As well as assist in revenue and customer tracking.

$21.22 per hour

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

Coordinate ride requests from the public:
  • Receive ride requests from the public via the telephone.
  • Dispatch buses in response to customer needs and requests.
  • Operate two-way radio.
  • Document incidents, complaints and general information received.

Receive trip sheets, vehicle inspection reports, and other information (written or verbal) from transit drivers:
  • Receive receipts and makes deposits of monies (fares) collected.
  • Issue road advisories to bus drivers as needed.

Assist in the preparation of flyers and media information to publicize system information and special events:
  • Utilizes telephone and computer to maintain, update and monitor client files.

Serve as a liaison between the public and the transit system
  • Alert proper authorities and follows established policies and procedures in a calm and focused manner in the case of bus incidents or accidents.
  • Assist walk-in clients at the customer service window.
  • Promote good public and client relations by providing a friendly, positive, accurate and efficient service.
  • Handle sensitive information and matters in a discreet and tactful manner.
  • Receive, records and stores lost and found articles.

Assist in the training of new dispatchers in policy, procedure, customer protocols and general office skills.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION
High School Diploma / GED

EXPERIENCE
One-year similar experience or any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties.

Desirable Qualifications:
Bilingual competencies for Latino population are preferred.

Knowledge of/Ability to:
  • Working knowledge of Lincoln County geography.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of clerical office procedures including record keeping and reporting.
  • Knowledge of public transit operation practices and procedures.
  • Bus routes, schedules, and street locations within the transit system service area.
  • Complete hands-on fire extinguisher training.

Lincoln County offers a comprehensive benefit package including vacation, holiday, and sick leave as well as medical, dental, vision which is paid at 90% by the County and 10% by the employee. Other fully paid benefits include life, AD&D, long-term disability insurance. Other optional insurances are available. A 401K retirement plan is also provided. The County's current contribution rate is 11%.

Regular and Trial Service employees working between 20 - 39 hours per week on a regular basis are eligible for pro-rated employee benefits.
