Job Description for Trans Ops Specialist - TOC

TOC Overview

TOC (Transportation Operation Center) is the central command and control center for "Transportation Execution" across the Amazon Supply Chain network supporting multiple geographies such as NA, India, and EU. It ensures hassle free, timely pick up and delivery of freight from vendors to Amazon fulfillment centers (FC) and from Amazon FCs to carrier hubs. In case of any exceptions, TOC steps in to resolve the issue and keeps all stakeholders informed on the proceedings. Along with tactical problem solving, TOC also monitors network trends, automates processes, and proposes changes to streamline operations. This second aspect involves network monitoring and significant analysis of network data. Overall, TOC plays a critical role in ensuring smooth functioning of Amazon transportation and thereby has a direct impact on Amazon's ability to serve customers on time.

Purview of a Trans Ops Specialist

A Trans Ops Specialist at TOC facilitates the flow of information between different stakeholders (Trans Carriers/Hubs/Warehouses) and resolves any potential issues that impact customer experience and business continuity. The role operates across two verticals - Inbound and Outbound operations.

Inbound Operations deals with Vendor/Carrier/FC relationships, ensuring freight is picked up on time and delivered at the FC as per the appointment. The specialist addresses any potential issues occurring during the lifecycle of pick up to delivery.

Outbound Operations deals with FC/Carrier/Carrier Hub relationships, ensuring that the truck leaves the FC in order to deliver customer orders as promised. The specialist addresses any potential issues occurring during the lifecycle of freight leaving the FC and reaching customer premises.

A Trans Ops Specialist provides timely resolution to issues by researching and querying internal tools and making real time decisions. The ideal candidate should analyze data, notice trends, drive customer experience without compromising on time, have a basic understanding of logistics, communicate clearly in written and oral form, ideate process improvements, and have the drive to execute them.

Responsibilities
  • Communication with external customers (Carriers and Vendors/Suppliers) and internal customers (Retail, Finance, Software Support, Fulfillment Centers)
  • Pull data from multiple databases (using Excel, Access, SQL, or other data management systems) to perform ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed
  • Develop and/or understand performance metrics to assist with driving business results
  • Scope out business and functional requirements for Amazon technology teams who create and enhance the software systems and tools used by TOC
  • Understand the business impact of trends and make data driven decisions
  • Systematically elevate problems or variance in information and data to relevant owners and teams, and follow through on resolutions to ensure they are delivered
  • Work within various time constraints to meet critical business needs while measuring and identifying activities performed
  • Excel in both verbal and written communication; create narratives outlining weekly findings and variances to goals, and present these findings in a review forum
  • Provide real time customer experience by working in a 24 7 operating environment
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Speak, write, and read fluently in English
