The Transportation Supervisor leads the BFG Supply team of professional Truck Drivers across several regional branches, ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused delivery operations. This role is responsible for coaching, training, and developing drivers, maintaining full compliance with DOT and company safety standards, and driving continuous improvement in route performance, cost efficiency, and customer service.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, motivational leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a vision for building a best-in-class delivery operation that supports BFG’s commitment to service excellence.

Compensation Data: Exempt salary, based on experience.

Location: Cheswick, PA

Schedule: M-F, generally an 8am start. Hours will vary based on schedules and seasonality.

Travel: As needed; up to 20% expected


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Coaching
    • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and performance feedback to drivers across multiple BFG locations.
    • Serve as a role model for safety, professionalism, and customer-first service.
    • Conduct ride-a longs, safety observations, and coaching sessions to build driver capability and engagement.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Operations & Efficiency
    • Oversee daily routing, dispatching, and delivery performance to ensure on-time, accurate, and cost-effective service.
    • Analyze delivery patterns, mileage, fuel usage, and load efficiency to identify opportunities for route optimization.
    • Partner with branch managers to coordinate driver scheduling, equipment assignments, and workload balancing.
    • Support new branch integrations, acquisitions, or route changes by developing and implementing scalable logistics practices.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations including driver logs, pre/post-trip inspections, hours-of-service, fuel tax compliance, violation compliance, and vehicle maintenance records.
    • Conduct regular driver safety meetings and maintain training documentation.
    • Collaborate with HR and Risk/Safety to manage accident investigations, drug/alcohol testing protocols, and corrective action processes.
  • Training & Development
    • Lead onboarding and ongoing training for drivers (e.g., customer service standards, load securement, defensive driving, Hazmat safety).
    • Partner with HR and Operations leadership to define driver career paths and recognition programs.
  • Strategic Improvement
    • Identify process improvements and technology solutions to enhance driver productivity and customer experience.
    • Provide insights on delivery metrics and help shape the future vision for BFG’s transportation network.


What you will need to succeed:

Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet supervision (multi-location preferred).
  • Strong understanding of Federal and State DOT rules/regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic Hazmat transport requirements.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Proven track record of improving safety, efficiency, or customer satisfaction.
  • Proficiency with routing software, telematics, and fleet management systems.

Preferred:

  • Experience in distribution or wholesale environments (Lawn & Garden, Building Products, or similar).
  • OSHA forklift certification or ability to train/oversee operators.
  • Prior CDL Class A or B experience a plus

  • Combination of office and field settings.
  • Occasional travel to other BFG and customer locations
