American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma Center in Omaha, NE, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac/vascular stepdown experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVU 5E) in an acute care, Level I Trauma Center
-
18-bed unit serving intermediate care patients and downgraded CVICU patients, with a strong focus on the thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart
-
Common diagnoses include cath lab cases, CVAs, CHF, A-fib with RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4; 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours

RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
-
Remote telemetry techs available; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips — unit has both hardwired tele and tele box capabilities

Respiratory therapy (RT) is available 24/7; equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula

Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7; cardiology is on call after hours

Charge nurse present on each shift; rarely takes a patient assignment

Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:18 ratio

12-hour day shifts: 0630–1900 and 1830–0700

Schedule is manager-assigned; no block or self-scheduling

Every other weekend required

No on-call or standby requirement

Floating required to units of the same or lower acuity level

EMR: Epic

Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted

Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac/vascular stepdown or intermediate care patient population

Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required

BSN not required

Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)

Cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity
-
Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Valid driver's license required for consideration

Provide intermediate-level cardiovascular nursing care including titrating drips and monitoring telemetry for a complex cardiac and vascular patient population

1–2 shifts of unit-specific orientation, tailored to the candidate's experience level

Open-book pass/fail skills exam administered on the Friday of orientation week — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass; failure results in contract termination

Candidates who were directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract — additional RTO will not be approved

Navy blue scrubs required

Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
