American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg ICU position at a Level I Trauma facility, requiring at least 2 years of recent ICU experience and active NE or Compact RN license.

Acute care setting in a Med/Surg ICU unit at a Level I Trauma, primary tertiary hospital
-
34-bed unit serving adult and pediatric patients (ages 15+)

Patient population includes neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure (CRRT), general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
-
Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1–2 (ICU), 1:4–5 (PCU), and 1:5–6 (Med/Surg)

RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
-
Monitoring via Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must be able to read and interpret their own strips independently (no monitor techs on unit)

RT equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators

Specialized equipment includes CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, and Belmont Rapid Transfuser — training available on all

EMR: Epic experience required

12-hour day shifts, 0630–1830; night shifts also available 1830–0630

Schedule is set by the manager based on unit needs

Every other weekend required

Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays, or every other as needed

Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU

13-week contract

Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted

Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required

Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently

Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius)

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Interview with unit leaders is required as part of the selection process

Candidates who are currently or have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided

A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation week — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass; failure results in contract termination

Charge nurses are present on each shift and attend rapid response teams (RRTs) and codes but do carry an assignment

Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio

Navy blue scrubs required

Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination

Fast-paced, high-volume unit; successful candidates demonstrate critical thinking, a positive attitude, willingness to collaborate, and the ability to ask questions

Collaborative team environment working alongside attendings, fellows, and residents

RTO must be disclosed upfront; up to 7 days per 13-week contract is allowed — additional RTO will not be approved after submission
