American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg & Infectious Disease unit requiring prior travel experience, Epic proficiency, and strong knowledge of isolation precautions.

18-bed Med/Surg and Infectious Disease unit in an acute care hospital setting, all private rooms
-
Patient population includes infectious disease, isolation, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and similar diagnoses
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 (1:4 for COVID patients); unit is typically staffed with 3–4 RNs per shift
-
2 CNAs per shift provide nursing assistant support
-
Remote telemetry monitored from the 3rd floor; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
-
No cardiac drips; common IV medications include heparin, antibiotics, and typical Med/Surg IV medications
-
No ventilators; patients may be on CPAP, BiPap, or high-flow oxygen managed by respiratory therapy

Epic is the EMR used; experience is required

12-hour night shifts (1900–0730) with a 30-minute lunch break
-
Every-other-weekend requirement; weekend nights include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs
-
Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to other Med/Surg units; if floated to a Tele unit, assignments will be within the traveler's skillset

13-week contract

Active WV RN license or compact RN license required

Current BLS certification (AHA)

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Prior travel nursing experience required

Epic EMR experience required

Strong knowledge of Med/Surg, infectious disease, and isolation precautions

Valid driver's license copy required for consideration

Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training, 1 day of floor orientation with a preceptor, and independent practice beginning on the 3rd day

A charge nurse is present 24/7; night charge nurses carry a full patient assignment
-
Travelers will be scheduled based on unit needs; block scheduling is permitted as long as unit needs are met
-
Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets must be royal blue if worn — no hoodies or sweat jackets

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
-
Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
-
Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one year cumulatively before a 2-year break is required

2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (from a perm facility if worked within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference
