Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology position requiring telemetry skills and ACLS certification, with hematology/oncology experience preferred.

Details

  • Inpatient Medical Surgical Oncology unit at a cancer hospital and research center
  • Patient population includes lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute and chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, other non-hematologic cancers, and benign hematology conditions
  • Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, with potential for 1:5 based on unit needs
  • Rotating day/night shifts available (12-hour shifts, 3x per week); day shifts run 7:00–19:30 and night shifts run 19:00–7:30
  • Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
  • Self-scheduling requests are submitted each scheduling period, with final schedule balanced by the unit
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg and Oncology units
  • Special procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, heparin drips, and management of oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome
  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
  • Uses Epic for electronic charting

Requirements

  • Active Ohio RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required
  • Hematology/oncology experience preferred but not required
  • ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) certification preferred
  • Telemetry experience required, including on-unit monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Proficiency with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs
  • Feeding tube care and management experience required
  • Experience with Epic EMR
  • Familiarity with Rapid Response Team protocols

Additional Information

  • First week of orientation is Monday–Friday on day shift; second week consists of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
  • No blocked or set scheduling is offered — schedule is built based on submitted preferences and staffing needs each 4-week period
  • All time-off requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
  • 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
  • Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
  • No mandatory break between assignments is required when changing representation at this facility (except for Sterile Processing Techs, who require a 30-day break)
