Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in a corrections-based oncology unit, requiring Epic proficiency and an active Ohio or compact RN license.

Details

  • Hospital-based Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a secured corrections environment for Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates
  • Unit is locked with access controlled by Corrections Officers (CO); CO-to-inmate ratio is 1:2
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for PCU assignments and 1:4-5 for MS assignments
  • Shifts may be assigned to either the MS or PCU unit depending on scheduling needs
  • Patient population includes active oncology diagnoses (solid tumors, hematology), oncology workup admissions, and non-oncology diagnoses such as COPD, sepsis, and pneumonia
  • Key procedures include cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management, unit-based telemetry, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line management, PCA management, hemodialysis care, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy management, and ABG interpretation
  • Medication system: Pyxis; Documentation system: Epic (experience required)
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Weekend shift requirements vary based on unit needs
  • Floating to various Oncology Med/Surg units is required
  • 16-week contract

Requirements

  • Active Ohio RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
  • Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Shift assignments rotate between days and nights on a 12D/N rotating contract, with scheduling reviewed every 4-week period based on staffing needs
  • Provide care in a secure corrections unit, with an emphasis on staff safety protocols
  • Support services available include interpretation services, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, and transportation
  • No 30-day break between assignments is required to change representation for this health system (excluding Sterile Processing Techs)
  • All time off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
