American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele/Ortho position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Hospital setting with 207 licensed beds, designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center (no trauma designation, not a teaching hospital)

Position is on the 7 North/South Med/Surg Tele/Ortho unit with 48 beds, serving general medical overflow and surgical patients including total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), spinal surgeries (laminectomies, discectomies, fusions), and other orthopedic procedures

RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with surge ratios up to 1:7–8; CNA coverage at 1:6–12

12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

No on-call responsibilities

EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips

Floating is required to all units within scope at the home facility and across the assigned region, which may include multiple hospital campuses — candidates who are not agreeable to regional floating should not apply

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Orthopedic experience and knowledge of spinal precautions required for this unit
-
General Med/Tele skills required: stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, Flexiseals, Foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)

IV medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF

Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract

Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation

A home unit will be assigned on the first day of orientation

Department support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team (11a–7p and 11p–7a), resource nurse (as staffing allows), Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist coverage
