Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable and organized Truck Dispatcher to coordinate freight operations across the United States. The dispatcher will be responsible for scheduling loads, communicating with drivers, ensuring on-time deliveries, and maintaining efficient route planning while complying with DOT regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign and dispatch loads to company drivers and/or owner-operators
- Plan and optimize routes to ensure timely and cost-efficient deliveries
- Communicate continuously with drivers via phone, email, or GPS systems
- Track shipments and provide real-time updates to customers and brokers
- Handle delays, breakdowns, and route changes quickly and effectively
- Negotiate freight rates with brokers when needed (for brokerage roles)
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations
- Maintain accurate records of loads, PODs, and driver schedules
- Coordinate with warehouse, brokers, and customers
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 1–3+ years experience in truck dispatching (US trucking industry preferred)
- Strong knowledge of US geography and interstate routes
- Familiarity with load boards (DAT, Truckstop, etc.)
- Good understanding of FMCSA/DOT rules (Hours of Service, etc.)
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and multiple trucks
- Basic computer skills (Excel, dispatch software, CRM tools)
- Fluent English (spoken + written)
Preferred Experience
- Experience with dry van, reefer, flatbed, or hotshot dispatching
- Working with owner-operators and fleet management
- Brokerage or freight dispatch experience
- Use of TMS systems (McLeod, AscendTMS, TruckLogics, etc.)
Good Truck Dispatcher Candidate Profile
- 1–5 years in US trucking dispatch or freight coordination
- Background in logistics, freight brokerage, or carrier operations
