Turbine Speclist

Repairs, troubleshoots, monitors and maintains turbines and auxiliary equipment associated with the turbine generator, while maintaining the highest standards for safety, quality and industry practices. Performs all preventative and corrective maintenance, estimates the man-hours, materials and cost for equipment repairs. Work is performed with minimal supervision and direction from the supervisor. Overtime and shiftwork may be required.


Implements all necessary preventive and/or corrective maintenance to plant mechanical maintenance systems to assure plant performance goals are met. (20%) Contributes in establishing outage scope and critical parts list (10%) Installs, repairs and maintains turbines and auxiliary equipment such as lube oil skids, vapor extractors, PALL oil purification units, REXA valve actuators, governor and stop valves. Perform coupling alignments, replace seals, bearings and equipment. (10%) With thorough understanding of turbine equipment and auxiliary systems, quickly identifies the potential problem area and begins diagnostic research and repair. (10%) Reviews and closes work orders in the Oracle system and reviews vibration data in CS 2140 (Caltrol) and Alta Solutions. Maintains all systems necessary to support generation requirements. (10%) Reviews project instructions, blueprints, and procedures, needed in the installation of any new equipment, or the repair of existing equipment. (10%) Diagnoses cause of any turbine equipment mechanical malfunction or failure. (10%) Plans, directs, and records periodic mechanical maintenance testing of plant equipment. Recommends any changes or replacement of turbine & auxiliary equipment to plant management. Over sees contractor crews performing turbine testing or repairs. (5%) Oversees shop work on turbine components (5%) Operates plant vehicles, forklift, and personnel cart. (5%) Responsible for progressing in the company training program and assisting others. (5%) Responsible for the adherence to all safety and environmental policies set forth by Berkshire Hathaway Company. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.


High school diploma; minimum of five years related maintenance experience or certification program or equivalent education and experience. Effective oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of PC software application, including spreadsheet, word processing and database. Effective analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Ability to read and interpret written documents such as safety rules, technical manuals, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence accurately. Ability to communicate orally, including the use of a radio and acceptable telephone etiquette necessary to communicate needed plant responses. Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as fundamentals of geometry and algebra. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and variable situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must have a valid California Driver’s License.
