UGM Mobile Maintenance Mechanic

What’s the role?

The Mobile Maintenance Mechanic reports to the Mobile Maintenance Leading Hand, with a primary role of maintaining underground mobile and associated ancillary equipment. All maintenance activities undertaken are to be done in a timely and cost-effective manner whilst adhering to Company standards, policies and procedures. This is to minimise downtime and to ensure targeted machine reliability is achieved between planned maintenance tasks within the Operations.

Duties include:

  • Undertake diagnostic, breakdowns, follow-up work, PMs to a high standard of execution, all work completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Provide technical advice and support to fellow Maintenance Team members.
  • Ensures workmanship through meeting standards and tolerances and testing of equipment prior to handover.
  • Identify correct parts and equipment for all planned and unplanned jobs, as necessary.
  • Attend daily pre-start meetings to ensure effective communication.
  • Provide written and verbal handover for incoming crews regarding maintenance plans and issues.
  • Liaise closely with and maintain effective communication with Leading Hand, Underground Supervisors and other key Stakeholders to organise priority breakdowns.
  • Ensure correct history is collated and effectively recorded.
  • Carry out, provide input to the development of, and comply with, SWPs and JHAs ensuring risks are identified and mitigated, and safety standards are met.
  • Organise all permits as required (e.g. isolations, confined space and hot work permits).
  • Continuously review scheduled jobs to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Highlight equipment defects and issues effectively.
  • Rigorous cost management. Avoid rework and the unnecessary use of parts/services.
  • Ensure all required documentation is completed correctly and submitted prior to the end of shift.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard IDs, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications Required

  • Current Driver’s License.

Desired Experience & Competencies

  • 2-5 years mechanical experience in heavy mining application.
  • Excellent trouble shooting skill and ability to carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Proficient in prioritising work.
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Basic literacy, must be able to read and write in English.
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office, Pronto or similar Computerized Maintenance Management System(CMMS).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

The details:

Working a 21 day on, 2118 day off rotating schedule up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
