Position Summary:
The Underwriter Associate supports the underwriting function by evaluating, analyzing, and processing commercial auto insurance submissions under established underwriting guidelines and oversight. This role assists with both new business and renewal underwriting while developing technical underwriting judgment and familiarity with carrier requirements. The Underwriter Associate works closely with Underwriters, Service, and internal teams to ensure underwriting activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, carrier guidelines, and regulatory requirements. This position contributes directly to risk assessment, service quality, and underwriting workflow execution while continuing to build underwriting expertise.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate new business and renewal commercial auto submissions under direction of underwriting leadership.
- Analyze underwriting information, including loss history, vehicle details, coverage requests, and exposure data.
- Assist in determining appropriate underwriting terms and conditions in accordance with established guidelines.
- Ensure submissions and underwriting files are complete, accurate, and compliant with company and carrier requirements.
- Enter and maintain underwriting data within policy and underwriting systems.
- Communicate with agents and internal teams regarding submission requirements, underwriting questions, and status updates.
- Support endorsement, renewal, audit, and policy issuance processes as assigned.
- Escalate complex, higher‑risk, or out‑of‑guideline submissions to senior Underwriters or the Underwriting Manager.
- Monitor underwriting workflow queues and assist with turnaround time management.
- Maintain awareness of underwriting guidelines, carrier updates, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to underwriting consistency and adherence to internal standards.

- Underwriting Knowledge — Working understanding of commercial auto and trucking insurance underwriting principles, coverages, and documentation requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- 2–4 years of experience in insurance underwriting, underwriting support, or related roles
- Familiarity with commercial auto or trucking insurance products
- Basic understanding of underwriting guidelines and risk assessment principles
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Proficiency with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office
- Authorized to work in the United States
Preferred:
- Experience within a trucking, transportation, or commercial auto underwriting environment
- Prior experience in an MGA or specialty insurance setting
- Progress toward professional designations (e.g., AU, CPCU coursework)
- Demonstrated interest in continued underwriting career development
Physical Demands and Work Environment:

- Moderate to high noise level consistent with a busy office environment

Pay: $65,000.00 per year
