Job Description:

This role involves guiding students in the upper elementary stage as they transition from foundational learning to more complex, abstract concepts across multiple subjects, focusing on fostering greater independence, critical thinking, and social-emotional growth.

Job duties and responsibilities

Instruction and curriculum

  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate, interdisciplinary lesson plans that align with the school curriculum standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, interests, and learning styles of all students.
  • Integrate technology and various digital tools into lesson plans to support projects and enhance abstract learning.
  • Create and implement project-based learning units that encourage hands-on, collaborative work and inquiry.
  • Assess and evaluate student learning using diverse methods, including projects, essays, quizzes, and standardized tests.


Classroom management and student development

  • Establish and enforce clear classroom rules and procedures with student input to maintain an orderly, respectful, and productive learning environment.
  • Promote student independence by helping them develop organizational and time-management skills.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that emphasizes community, cooperation, and respect for individual differences.
  • Manage student behavior through positive reinforcement and logical, consistent consequences.
  • Guide students' social and emotional development by teaching valuable life skills such as patience, responsibility, and empathy.


Communication and collaboration

  • Communicate regularly and proactively with parents regarding their child's academic progress, behavior, and any concerns.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with families to create a collaborative partnership that supports student success.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, principles, and administrators to evaluate curriculum and plan integrated units.
  • Lead and supervise students during non-classroom activities, such as recess, lunch, field trips, and school events.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities.


Qualifications and skills

Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Elementary Education/ Education/ or a related field is required. A master's degree can be an advantage.
  • Experience: Previous experience of not less than 1year. As working with upper elementary students and an American curriculum is often preferred.

  • Patience and empathy: The ability to calmly and effectively support students who may be struggling with new material or behavioral issues.
  • Adaptability and flexibility: The capacity to adjust lesson plans and teaching methods to meet the evolving needs of students and unexpected situations.

  • Creativity and resourcefulness: The ability to design engaging, interactive lessons and to think on your feet when handling challenges.
  • Organizational skills: Strong planning abilities to develop and manage curriculum, classroom materials, and student records.
