Job Title and Summary: UX Designer Lead
Our client is seeking a UX Designer Lead to drive the end-to-end user experience for a Child Care Digital Hub that helps families of children ages 0–5 understand their child care options and supports providers in starting and maintaining services. The UX Design Lead will own high-fidelity designs and prototypes, refine the product for launch, and guide new features and enhancements in future releases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with product, UX research, content strategy, and engineering partners to translate user needs into intuitive design solutions.
- Design and maintain prototypes and high-fidelity UI for the web-based hub, supporting user testing and development.
- Plan and conduct prototype testing for new features, analyze findings, and convert insights into design recommendations.
- Partner with content strategy to shape information architecture, content structure, and messaging for parents and providers.
- Support final design adjustments before launch and iterate post-launch based on performance metrics and user feedback.
- Collaborate with developers on implementation details, conduct visual QA, and ensure designs are built to specification.
- Advocate for accessibility, inclusivity, and equity-centered design throughout the product lifecycle.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- 8+ years of proven UX design experience with a strong portfolio of user-friendly, consumer-facing products (portfolio link required in resume).
- Expert proficiency in Figma, with experience independently delivering end-to-end design solutions (flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity UI).
- Strong visual design skills, including typography, spacing, and layout for web interfaces.
- Deep understanding of user-centered design, including journey mapping, low- to high-fidelity mocks, and testable prototypes that support usability and accessibility.
- Ability to synthesize user research and data insights into clear design hypotheses and UX solutions.
- Experience partnering with product and content roles to translate requirements into thoughtful interaction and content design.
- Experience working closely with engineers to test prototypes and perform visual QA.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain design decisions to non-design stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working on cross-disciplinary product teams (product, engineering, content, research).
- Experience in public sector, civic tech, or mission-driven digital services.
- Hands-on experience with usability testing and translating insights into iterative design improvements.
- Familiarity with working within and extending existing or lightweight design systems.
- Strong grounding in accessibility standards and equity-centered design practices.
Role Logistics:
- Location: Hybrid – 3 days per week on-site in Brooklyn, NY; 2 days remote.
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, normal business hours, 35 hours per week
- Duration: Approximately 1 year (project-based assignment).
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $50.00 - $65.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
