UX Designer

OtterSoft has an open position for a part-time contracted UX Designer. We are looking for a talented UX Designer with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience designing intuitive digital experiences for web and mobile applications. The ideal candidate is passionate about user-centered design, understands how to balance business objectives with user needs, and thrives in a fast-paced, AI-first development environment.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly collaborative UX Designer who believes great design is more than aesthetics—it is about solving real user problems. This is not a traditional design role.

We build, test, learn, and iterate quickly.
We use AI as a core tool to accelerate research, ideation, and design workflows.
We measure success through user outcomes and product adoption.

If you are excited about helping shape exceptional user experiences while working alongside AI-first development teams, we want to talk.

If you prefer lengthy design cycles, excessive documentation, or working in isolation from product and engineering teams, this role may not be a fit.

What You'll Do

  • Design intuitive and engaging user experiences for web and mobile applications.
  • Create user flows, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate design exploration, research, and content generation.
  • Validate design decisions through user feedback and data.
  • Establish and maintain design standards and UX best practices.
  • Advocate for user-centered design throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Continuously improve usability, accessibility, and user satisfaction.

What “AI-First” Means Here

You:

  • Use AI to accelerate UX research and competitive analysis.
  • Generate and explore design concepts rapidly.
  • Create user flows and design documentation with AI assistance.
  • Analyze user feedback and identify usability patterns.
  • Prototype and iterate more efficiently through AI-supported workflows.
  • Leverage AI as a creative and productivity partner throughout the design process.

AI is embedded in your workflow—not something you occasionally experiment with.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business objectives and user needs.
  • Create user personas, journey maps, workflows, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Design intuitive interfaces that align with user expectations and business goals.
  • Conduct usability testing and gather actionable user feedback.
  • Translate complex workflows into simple and effective user experiences.
  • Partner closely with developers to ensure design feasibility and implementation quality.
  • Contribute to and maintain design systems and component libraries.
  • Ensure designs meet accessibility and usability standards.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and product planning activities.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve existing user experiences.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of professional UX design experience.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design processes and outcomes.
  • Proficiency with Figma and modern UX design tools.
  • Experience designing responsive web and mobile applications.
  • Strong understanding of usability principles, interaction design, and information architecture.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing.
  • Ability to create wireframes, prototypes, user flows, and design specifications.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in Agile environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working alongside software engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with React, React Native, or modern front-end frameworks.
  • Experience creating and maintaining design systems.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered design and productivity tools.
  • Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Knowledge of data-driven design and user analytics tools.
  • Experience in healthcare, SaaS, or enterprise software environments.

Competencies

  • Strong empathy for users and their needs.
  • Creative thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective collaborator who thrives in cross-functional environments.
  • Ability to balance user needs with business objectives.
  • Continuous learner who embraces innovation and emerging technologies.

Culture Fit

You thrive here if you:

  • Enjoy solving real user problems.
  • Move quickly and iterate based on feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with developers and stakeholders.
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Take ownership of outcomes.
  • Embrace AI-driven workflows and innovation.
  • Value continuous improvement and learning.

You will not thrive here if you:

  • Prefer lengthy design cycles before gathering feedback.
  • Resist AI-assisted workflows.
  • Work best in highly siloed environments.
  • Avoid collaboration with product and engineering teams.
  • Focus primarily on visual design without considering user experience.
