Valve Foreman –

The Valve Foreman oversees all valve-related operations on an oil and gas site, including installation, maintenance, testing, repair, and inspection of valves used in production, processing, and pipeline systems. He ensures work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities (Valve Operations & Maintenance)

  • Supervise and coordinate all valve maintenance activities (gate, ball, check, control valves, PSV, etc.).
  • Plan and oversee installation, removal, repair, and calibration of valves.
  • Ensure proper functioning of valves on pipelines, wellheads, separators, and process equipment.
  • Perform or supervise leak testing, pressure testing, stroke testing, and seat integrity checks.

Team Supervision

  • Lead a crew of valve technicians and helpers.
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
  • Train and mentor junior staff on valve handling, safety, and maintenance procedures.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all safety standards, isolation procedures, and lockout/tagout (LOTO).
  • Ensure maintenance procedures follow industry standards (API, ANSI, ASME).
  • Conduct toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and ensure proper use of PPE.

Inspection & Documentation

  • Inspect valves for wear, corrosion, or malfunction.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and test certificates.
  • Report equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with production, mechanical, and instrumentation teams for scheduled shutdowns, turnarounds, and emergency repairs.
  • Communicate job progress, issues, and needs to supervisors or maintenance planners.
  • Ensure spare parts, tools, and materials are available to avoid work delays.

Shutdown & Turnaround Support

  • Lead valve teams during shutdowns/turnarounds.
  • Manage large-scale valve replacement, overhauls, and testing activities.
  • Ensure timelines and quality standards are met.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Well experienced in valve maintenance in oil & gas.
  • Strong knowledge of API standards, valve types, and maintenance procedures.
  • Leadership and team-management skills.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
