VCSU Student - Macroinvertebrate Lab Summer Research Assistant

Title: Summer Research Assistant
Department: VCSU Macroinvertebrate Lab
Reports to: VCSU Macroinvertebrate Lab Director

Position Summary:
You will work with a crew sampling aquatic insects and freshwater mussels from rivers and streams across North Dakota as part of a State Wildlife Grant. It will involve a combination of field work and lab work. It is 40 hours a week with flexible hours.

Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned pertinent to the position.
  • Must be a positive role model on and off the job.
  • Must know and abide by all University rules and regulations.
  • Must maintain a positive attitude toward the position.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate student (basic).


  • Self-motivated and ability to work unsupervised.
  • TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED
  • Skill in observing situations.
  • Ability to work and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills and desire to be a team player.


  • Good organization and time management skills.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to move about. Will be walking and carrying items regularly. Must be comfortable working in rivers and streams which may require full immersion.
