Class Summary
The Vice President for Strategic Initiatives serves as a key member of the president’s cabinet, responsible for advancing the college’s long-term vision and priorities through the development, coordination, and execution of cross-institutional strategies. This role provides leadership in aligning institutional goals with emerging opportunities, fostering innovation, and strengthening partnerships that enhance student success and community impact.

The Vice President works collaboratively across academic, administrative, and external-facing areas to ensure that initiatives are strategically sound, fiscally responsible, and operationally sustainable. While providing oversight and support to departments such as marketing and public affairs, continuing education, and community relations, the focus of this position is on driving institutional effectiveness, cultivating strategic partnerships, and ensuring that programs and events advance the college’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.

As a senior leader, the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives champions data-informed decision making, nurtures collaboration across divisions, and ensures that the college remains agile in responding to evolving community needs, workforce demands, and higher education trends.

Minimum Education/Training/Experience
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Business, Public Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in higher education administration, strategic consulting, or a related field.


Preferred Education/Training/Experience
Doctorate

Minimum Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience overseeing or directly managing strategic initiatives, institutional communications, program development, or large-scale event coordination that support organizational priorities.
  • Proven track record of solving complex problems and connecting day-to-day activities to long-term strategic goals.
  • Ability to analyze data and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse groups.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to lead and manage multiple priorities.
  • High degree of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead institutional change and foster innovation in higher education.
  • Experience developing and sustaining cross-sector partnerships that drive community and workforce impact.
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation standards and strategic planning processes.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, resource allocation, and revenue growth strategies.

Job Duties
  • Provide high-level oversight and strategic guidance to key departments. This includes leading the strategic direction of continuing education and corporate training programs with a primary focus on revenue generation and sustainable growth.
  • The VP will identify new market opportunities and direct the development of innovative programs and partnerships that expand the college’s financial impact and reach
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with businesses, community organizations, and government agencies to advance the college’s mission and enhance its reputation and oversee the planning and execution of major college events.
  • Act as a primary communicator on behalf of the college, crafting and disseminating high-level internal and external messages. The VP builds and maintains strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external community partners, representing the college with professionalism and strategic foresight.
  • Oversee the preparation for key executive meetings and presentations, including leadership retreats, community meetings, and all-college briefings. This ensures the president and executive team are fully prepared for critical discussions and decision-making.
