THE OPPORTUNITY: Vice President of Product Development, Full Time

THE COMPANY:

At SecondWave Systems, we have developed a novel new approach to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other chronic inflammatory disorders. Our SecondWave MINI devices uses focused ultrasound technology on a noninvasive platform, which is patient self-administered. This gives patients and their physicians a new option for treating debilitating diseases.

JOB DUTIES:

Strategic Leadership
  • Define and lead the product development strategy across the medtech portfolio.
  • Translate business objectives and market opportunities into actionable R&D roadmaps.
  • Partner with executive leadership to drive innovation, pipeline growth, and long-term competitiveness.
Product Development
  • Lead all phases of the product lifecycle, from concept, design, and prototyping through preclinical/clinical testing, regulatory submissions, and commercial launch.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and quality standards (FDA QSR, ISO 13485, etc.), integrating quality management, risk management, and compliance into product development processes and company culture.
  • Partner with clinical leadership to support clinical trial design and execution
  • Translate clinician, patient, and stakeholder feedback into product features and design improvements.
  • Oversee technical evaluations, feasibility studies, and design reviews.
Team & Organizational Leadership
  • Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing multidisciplinary team, including engineers, scientists, and program managers.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical and operational capability as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field; advanced degree (MS, PhD, MBA) strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in medical device product development.
  • Demonstrated success bringing regulated medical devices from concept to market. Experience with novel therapeutic technologies desired.
  • Deep knowledge of design controls, risk management, and regulatory pathways and processes. ).
  • Proven track record managing cross-functional R&D programs and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical acumen
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in early-stage innovation within startup companies preferred.

PAY AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range: $180,000-220,000 base salary; depending on qualifications/experience; Equity compensation to be provided
FLSA Status: Full Time Exempt
